Dealing with Bullies: Strategies for Parents. Child care will be provided by Reece Staff during the workshop. Description: This parent workshop will address issues parents face when their children tell them that they are being bullied. What should you say? How do you respond? What can you do? Parents will have an opportunity to discuss these and other challenges they face when dealing with this important topic and be provided with specific strategies. About the Speaker: Dr. Barry E. McNamara, Ed.D. is a Professor of Special Education at Dowling College in Oakdale, New York. He received his BA from St. Benedict's College, his MS Ed. from University of Kansas (Special Education: Learning Disabilities), and his doctorate from Columbia University's Teachers College in Special Education: Learning Disabilities. In addition to teaching at the college level, Dr. McNamara was a special education teacher in a self-contained classroom setting and a resource room. He was also a Learning Disability Teacher Consultant. He has published widely in professional journals and other publications and is the author of a number of books. He is the coauthor (with his wife, Francine J. McNamara, MSW, LCSW-R) of Keys to Parenting a Child with ADD (2 editions), Keys to Parenting a Child with a Learning Disability, and Keys to Dealing with Bullies. He is the author of three textbooks in special education, including the most recent, Learning Disabilities: Bridging the Gap between Research and Classroom Practice (2007), published by Pearson.
