Admissions
The Reece School is a 501(c)(3) private non-profit elementary school in New York City serving children with special needs, ages 5 to 13. Founded in 1848 and chartered by the State of New York in 1955, it is located at 25 East 104th Street next to beautiful Museum Mile in Manhattan. The Reece School is governed by a voluntary Board of Trustees and receives funding from the State of New York and the New York City Department of Education.
The Reece School accepts applications for admission throughout the year. Applicants submit current evaluations, progress reports and other relevant material. Each application is reviewed by the school to determine whether Reece meets the general needs of the student. Applicants who may benefit from Reece are invited for a visit consisting of an informal evaluation, an update of the social history and an in-depth conversation with the parent/guardian. When appropriate, a visit to a classroom is scheduled.
The Reece School admits students without regard to race, color or national/ethnic origin and does not discriminate in the administration of its educational policies, athletic activities or any other school-administered programs.
Reece students possess the cognitive ability to benefit from a rigorous academic school program which follows the New York State Standards within a highly supportive and nurturing learning environment. Students participate in New York City and State testing with modifications as listed on each Individual Education Plan (IEP).
If it is determined that Reece may be an appropriate placement, the student's case is referred back to the Committee on Special Education (CSE), either by the school, parent/guardian or both, for amendment of the IEP to reflect placement in the school.
