It has been the goal of the Reece School for over half a century to provide a sophisticated approach to meeting the educational and therapeutic needs of children with learning disabilities, emotional difficulties, and/or speech and language delays. The present program consists of three basic elements:

1) an academic curriculum that includes language arts, mathematics, social studies, health, science, adaptive physical education, creative arts, study skills, and socialization;

2) related services of speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and counseling, as mandated;

3) a therapeutic milieu within the everyday life of the school that provides students opportunities to practice strategies to regulate their attention and activity levels, to modulate their emotional responses, learn social skills, and to establish friendship with their peers.

This three-pronged multidisciplinary approach allows us to integrate all aspects of learning and has long range positive effects on the children and their families. Children are placed in classes within a 3 year age span and regrouped for ELA and Math into similar functioning levels. Children with reading delays are scheduled for remedial reading, a non-mandated service that we offer many of our students. All children attend creative arts class and are involved in music, art, and drama. Adaptive physical education provides opportunities to improve skills and build on lifetime recreational interests.
